Kauai : The Garden Island of Hawaii

Kauai the “Garden Island of Hawaii” is truly the most virgin, relaxing and least commercially developed island of them all. It has in the upwards of 50 beaches, each having its own distinctive personality and several waterfalls. A drive in Kauai is a must with its engaging scenic routes all around the island. Continue below.

For the adventurers both on and off the water, you have excellent diving, snorkelling and all kinds of water sports combined with hiking trails, plantation tours, museums and the highly recommended Waimea Canyon tour.

For the more tranquil, our senior citizens and the less active there are activities that does not require getting off the car such as drivable beaches and waterfalls or one can simply relax in the numerous luxurious hotels, lazy on the poolside fronting its many magnificent beaches.

One of the most unforgettable experiences in Kauai one can have is the helicopter tour ride. It will simply take you places, one can only dream and imagine. Although costly, one cannot simply put a price tag on Gods finest creations. It will truly have a lasting impression with vistas such as a never ending coast line with sky-high cliffs on one side; there are numerous volcanoes, The Waimea canyon and literally hundreds of waterfalls. Flying into to the Napali Coast may remind one of an entrance to heaven on earth.

Another must see is Waimea Canyon, the grand canyon of the Hawaiian Islands. Along the way are several scenic lookouts points where one can view the green and bronze canyons, the red dirt of Kauai and a backdrop of a perfect blue sky. At 4000 feet above sea level the vantage point has some areas going from the canyon all the way to its coastline.

As most city dwellers never see a waterfall in their lifetime, here’s where Kauai really shines compared to the other islands. Kauai offers waterfalls almost in every corner, most easily seen by driving next to it, or simply taking a short walk. One of the biggest and most popular is Wailua Falls was made famous from the opening scene of Fantasy Island.

Finally, the Napali Coast. Located in the north shore of Kauai its beauty is stunning with lush vegetation and greenery, water falls streaming to the ocean and magnificent rock formations. Take a cruise and view it from the sea or for the more adventurous hike the trails to Hanakapiai and take a dip at any of it nearby beaches.

Kauai is simply my favourite and offers activities for all ages and physical abilities. Its controlled development is one that should be duplicated by all natural attractions of the world.
