Maui is an adventurer’s paradise. You can engage yourself in activities in all levels of physical ability and experience from a sunrise hike to the Haleakala Crater, the winding road and sacred ponds of Hana to whale watching on a boat or from the shores. You can snorkel in and around the island or hop on a helicopter for a scenic view of the vistas of Maui.
Lahaina in Maui once the capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom and a nineteenth century port is today a 55 acre historical landmark boasting its historic past where old buildings are preserved and gives one a feeling of nostalgia. Lahaina today is the center for major tourist activities such as pleasure boats, sunset cruises, snorkelling activities, whale watching, etc. It also boasts of fine dining restaurants, theatres and bars. A visit to the old town is a must for first time Maui visitors.
In upcountry Maui you find agrarian lands and genuine Maui cowboys. You can visit the Maui vineyards and taste their local wine.
One of the most popular destinations in Maui is the Haleakala Crater. One can take a sunset or sunrise hike to the top and bike down its slopes to sea level. Every year Haleakala gets a million visitors. You can experience an amazing view of the sun rays growing on the horizon on one side on the other watch the stars and purple night sky recede into daylight. It is a sight to behold.
Aptly said, “Hana Highway is candy for the eyes and nourishment for the soul”. With its winding road along a lush rainforest in Maui’s north shore gives one a feeling of heaven. Along the way you see quaint and rustic little towns and communities and pass thru valleys and peaks with narrow one lane bridges. You see water falls and swim in ice cold sacred pools all leading to the wonderful world of the Pacific.
It’s truly a Maui moment. Just make sure to keep you eyes on the road as Hana has one of the curviest roads and the most scenic, photo op views.
Believe it or not Maui’s most frequent visitors are not humans but Humpback whales. Numbering less than 8000 surviving in the world today they are the most amazing site you’ll ever see in your lifetime. All 45 feet and a ton of them playing, spouting, slapping and splashing. These gentle marine giants make their way to the warm waters and shelter of Maui from the freezing cold of Alaska in the winter between November and May to bear their young and mate. You can view these amazing creatures from a boat or simply watch out for them from the comforts of the shore.
Maui is truly a Magical island in Hawaii.
